The Gory Animated Movie Conclusion That Stays With Fans
Out of all the adult-oriented cartoon movies I have ever watched, no other has remained with me quite like the fear-filled ending of the graphically gory and highly provocative 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.
Back in the year 2015, this Spanish filmmaker crafted a dark, bleak , often savage universe with several minor , forlorn glimmers of hope.
Although The Unicorn Wars appears as it stemmed from a desire to expand the medium even more, the filmmaker stated that it was rather an effort to convey a widespread, multicultural theme about “the shared root of all wars.”
This theme is expressed through a squad of colorful pastel bears , openly modeled after a popular series of lovable characters.
Maturing in a society built around militarism and the war machine, many of these animals are obsessed with exterminating the mythical beasts, because of a religious scripture that tells the bears they were once kings of the woodland, until the unicorns forced them out.
Some haven’t fully accepted the indoctrination, and prefer to experiment with substances or fornicate in the forest.
Unlike their gentle equivalents, these colorful critters have visible genitals , clear libidos.
For a particular particularly cruel, cynical bear, Bluey, the war with unicorns turns into a route to control — and especially to dominance above his more tender, nicer brother the bear Tubby.
Bluey acts as a tormentor and a seeming psychopath , and when terror takes over his group and kills his comrades sequentially, he seizes more and more power personally, in increasingly bloody, harmful methods.
Simultaneously, the horned creatures are enduring their own horror, in the form of a growing, destructive monster in their forest.
“In the early stages, it seems like a comedy,” the filmmaker said. “But then it evolves into a more serious and sad movie. And by the end, it’s a horror film.”
The Unicorn Wars begins similar to one of the more quirky features from a renowned animator, that uncover a mischievous joy in letting animated figures swear, shoot each other, or engage sexually.
Then it turns into something more like a bleaker movie by that same artist, including ever more explicit brutality , a palpable connection to the actual horror of conflict.
Ultimately, it is a full-on extreme drama massacre.
The fear which makes the film a perfect Halloween viewing starts a lot earlier than indicated.
The Unicorn Wars is ideal for the hardcore lovers of violence, for lovers of intense movies who want to view a film they have not seen on-screen before, and can endure a story that offers absolutely no punches.
See it in a dark room free from interruptions, and the conclusion will dig deep within you and linger.
