Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his future following another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the team's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received significant support from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Response
The manager highlighted familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell like this with outcomes like these.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
