New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.”

It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the hospital, where his condition is described as critical but stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, given his positive frame of mind and he’s talking that way.”

Authorities released surveillance images earlier this week of a suspect in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday in the area between MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a baby.

“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd was inactive during the current season, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in spring and was expected to be a key part of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while working his way back.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in 2023 and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
